National Trust for Historic Preservation - A Rhode Island Getaway

Discover Rhode Island’s rich past on this gala National Trust for Historic Preservation Memorial Day Weekend getaway. Our program centers around Newport, a resort town like no other, with over 350 colonial buildings. Be guided through the historic venues of the area by noteworthy experts such as Dr. Daniel Snydacker, Executive Director of the Newport Historical Society, and John Tschirch, Director of Academic Programs for the Preservation Society of Newport County. Visit Newport’s famed manors including the Breakers, the Vanderbilt’s stunning Italian Renaissance palazzo, and Rosecliff, the summer house which had been modeled after the Grand Trianon of Versailles. Our visit to the area includes a private reception at the Museum of Newport History and an exclusive dinner at the Newport Museum of Art.

Arnold Robinson, Executive Director of the Providence Preservation Society, escorts us on a walking tour of historic Benefit Street in Providence, one of America’s best-preserved colonial neighborhoods. Visit neighboring Portsmouth with its noteworthy Green Animals topiary gardens.
